Privacy policy.

Last updated: October 2026

This website is run by Dr Conor Laing, chiropractor, who practises at Healing Wave Chiropractic Newcastle. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” means Dr Conor Laing and Healing Wave Chiropractic.

Your privacy matters to us. As a health service, we handle your personal and health information in line with:

  • the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs)

  • the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002 (NSW) and its Health Privacy Principles

  • the Chiropractic Board of Australia’s Code of conduct for chiropractors, which requires us to keep your information confidential

What information we collect

Through this website, we may collect:

  • your name, email address and phone number when you join the newsletter, send an enquiry or enquire about a talk

  • details you give us when you book an appointment

  • basic website usage information, such as pages visited and browser type, through cookies and analytics

When you come in for care, we collect health information. This includes your health history, assessment findings, INSiGHT neurological scan results, X-ray reports and care notes. Health information is sensitive information, and we only collect it with your consent, or where the law allows.

Please don’t send detailed health information through our website forms or email. We’ll go through it properly and privately at your assessment.

How we collect it

We collect information directly from you, through our website forms, online booking, phone calls, emails and appointments. Sometimes, with your consent, we receive information from other people involved in your care, such as your GP or another health practitioner. For children, we collect information from a parent or guardian.

Why we collect it

We use your information to:

  • book and manage your appointments

  • provide safe, appropriate chiropractic care

  • respond to your questions and talk enquiries

  • send you our newsletter and practice updates, if you’ve signed up

  • communicate with other practitioners involved in your care, with your consent

  • meet our legal, professional and record-keeping obligations

We don’t sell your information, and we don’t use your health information for marketing.

Who we share it with

We only share your information when it’s needed for the reasons above, or when the law requires it. This may include:

  • other health practitioners involved in your care, such as your GP, with your consent

  • our service providers, who help us run the practice and website:

    • Cliniko: practice management and online bookings

    • Mailchimp (Intuit): email newsletters

    • Squarespace: website hosting and forms

  • regulators, insurers or others where the law requires or allows it

Overseas storage

Some of our service providers store information outside Australia. Mailchimp and Squarespace store data in the United States. Cliniko stores our practice data in Australia. We choose providers with strong security and privacy protections, but by using our website forms or newsletter you acknowledge that your contact details may be stored overseas.

Newsletter and marketing emails

If you join our newsletter or download a resource, we’ll send you emails about health, our practice and our services. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time. We follow the Spam Act 2003 (Cth).

Cookies and analytics

Our website uses cookies to make it work properly and to help us understand how people use it, for example through Squarespace analytics. Cookies don’t tell us who you are. You can turn them off in your browser settings, but some parts of the site may not work as well.

Keeping your information safe

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access or disclosure. Our team is trained in privacy and confidentiality. We use secure, password-protected systems and limit access to the people who need it.

We keep health records for as long as the law requires. In NSW, that’s at least 7 years from your last visit for adults, and for children, until they turn 25. We then securely destroy them.

Children’s information

When we care for children, we collect and manage their information with a parent or guardian’s consent. A parent or guardian can request access to their child’s information, subject to the law.

Staying anonymous

You can browse this website and ask general questions without giving us your name. We do need your real details to book appointments and provide care.

Accessing and correcting your information

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it if it’s wrong. Contact us using the details below. We’ll respond within 30 days. In some limited cases the law allows us to refuse access, and if so, we’ll explain why.

Questions or complaints

If you have a question or a concern about how we’ve handled your information, please contact us first. We’ll aim to respond within 30 days.
